Replacement Cattle, Reputation Easy-Care Hair Sheep & Komondor Livestock Guardian Dogs
About Us:
Hopping Land & Livestock Company is headquartered at Coweta, Oklahoma in the Heart of Northeastern Oklahoma's Green Country. Brothers Joe and Hoss Hopping share a passion for land and livestock and we're advocates of Management Intensive Grazing (MIG) in order to better utilize their pastures and regenerate the land and improve the environment.
We run stocker cattle and a herd of brood cows as well as a reputation flock of hair sheep. We also own Eastern Oklahoma Land Investments - a company that is involved in the acquisition and management of agricultural land in Eastern Oklahoma.
Our pastures are subdivided with permanent and temporary electric fence and we move our livestock to fresh pasture on a regular basis. We have a low-input operation and we use very little equipment. Our animals receive supplement if deemed necessary due to pasture conditions and we only feed hay during times of large amounts of ice or snow.
We've had hair sheep for almost twenty years now and since the beginning we've bred them with an emphasis on parasite tolerance and livability. It's been well worth the effort for our sheep are our most profitable farm enterprise and are virtually trouble free.
We use Komondor dogs as guardian animals for our sheep to keep predators at bay. We've tried nearly all of the livestock guardian dog breeds with mixed results and the Komondor is by far our breed of choice. We use Border Collie and Kelpie herding dogs and we can't emphasize enough how handy a good dog can be.

We feel that Adapted Easy Care Livestock Genetics in combination with Management Intensive Grazing to regenerate the land improve the environment is the future of the livestock industry.
"Livestock have a dual role - they must efficiently convert grass into meat and they must improve the land on which they graze. This will require radically different management and breeding practices ." ~~ Johann Zietsman |
